Gambiaj.com – (CONAKRY, Guinea) – Authorities in Guinea say former junta aide Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité, widely known as Toumba, has been hospitalised after suffering a medical emergency while in detention at the Coyah central prison.
In a statement issued several hours after his evacuation, the Public Prosecutor General at the Conakry Court of Appeal said Diakité experienced a sudden illness during the night of March 23, 2026, at the Maison Centrale de Coyah, where he has been held since his transfer from Conakry’s central prison.
According to information from the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Coyah Court of First Instance, the incident occurred overnight and prompted a rapid response from prison authorities. Diakité was immediately evacuated to the Camp Almamy Samory Touré Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
“The detainee is receiving intensive care adapted to his condition, under the close supervision of qualified medical personnel,” the statement said.

The medical emergency comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the high-profile detainee in recent months. In February 2026, Diakité was transferred from the Conakry central prison to the facility in Coyah following a prison search operation that uncovered prohibited items, including weapons and psychotropic substances.
During that operation, authorities reported that Diakité allegedly became aggressive toward security officers, prompting the decision to relocate him in order to maintain order within the prison system.
Diakité, a former aide-de-camp to ex-junta leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara, was sentenced in July 2024 to ten years in prison for crimes against humanity linked to the September 28, 2009 massacre in Conakry.
Judicial authorities said his health condition continues to be closely monitored by hospital staff and pledged to provide further updates in accordance with national regulations.
