Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING, The Gambia) – In a concerted effort to address rising crime rates and enhance operational efficiency, the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) Commissioner, Adeline Basangeh, convened a high-level meeting recently at the PIU Headquarters in Kanifing. The gathering brought together Regional Assistant Commissioners, Deployment Commanders, and senior officers to deliberate on critical challenges and strategies for improving the unit’s effectiveness.
A central outcome of the meeting was the directive to intensify visible and strategic patrols, particularly to combat a surge in housebreakings reported in various regions. Commanders were tasked with deploying resources efficiently to boost public safety and enhance police presence in vulnerable areas.
The meeting also underscored the importance of community engagement as a cornerstone of the PIU’s crime-prevention strategy. Officers were encouraged to foster trust and collaboration with local communities to gather actionable intelligence and strengthen ties with residents.
The ongoing partnership with the German Police Support Team (GPST) was highlighted as a vital asset in the unit’s operations. The GPST has provided critical support through training programs, transport resources, and equipment donations, all of which have bolstered the PIU’s capabilities.
Another key focus was improving coordination with other law enforcement agencies to ensure a unified approach in tackling criminal activities. Officers identified operational constraints and proposed practical solutions to streamline processes and enhance overall performance.
Commissioner Basangeh, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to the officers for their commitment and insights. He reaffirmed the PIU’s dedication to maintaining public safety and emphasized professionalism and discipline as foundational principles for law enforcement.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the unit to uphold law and order across The Gambia, reflecting the PIU’s proactive stance in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
