Gambiaj.com – (FARATO, The Gambia) – Police in The Gambia is investigating an alleged case of assault causing death involving a 20-year-old man identified as Momodou Lamin Jawara of Sinchu Gidom, Jambur.
According to a notice from the Gambia Police Force, preliminary information indicates that Jawara was allegedly assaulted on Friday, March 20, 2026, and later died the following day, Saturday, March 21.
Officers from the Farato Police Station were swiftly deployed to the scene after the incident was reported. The suspect, identified as the father of the deceased, was subsequently arrested and is currently assisting investigators.
Police said the body of the deceased has been transported to the mortuary at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing.
The police added that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
