Senegal qualify for the CAN semi-finals for the seventh time in their history after beating Mali on the lowest of scores. One goal was enough for Iliman Ndiaye to give the Lions the victory and continue their journey to the final four of the competition.
Senegal had to go through a few cold sweats before taking control of its quarter-final against Mali. Pushed from the entrance, the Lions approached the disaster scenario from the 3rd minute when Kalidou Koulibaly intervenes in his surface against Lassine Sinayoko. The Malian collapses and demands a penalty, but after checking the VAR, the referee does not flinch. This hot stroke passed, Mali tries to install its game and monopolizes the ball in the first minutes. Senegal, more cautious, bets on its wings to project. On the left side, El Hadji Malick Diouf multiplies the accelerations and undermines the opposing defense, without however finding the right precision in its centers. The battle is intensifying in the middle of the field. In the 22nd minute, Iliman Ndiaye breaks the lines by an axial breakthrough and serves Pope Gueye, whose strike is deflected at the last moment. The Lions then feel the opening and press the accelerator.
