Ziguinchor Swept by Bassirou Diomaye Faye in Presidential Election Landslide

In a stunning turn of events, all polling stations, or rather all polling offices, in Ziguinchor have fallen into the hands of candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The candidate of the “Diomaye Président” coalition has made a veritable sweep with over 80% of the votes in Ziguinchor.

Ziguinchor has shifted to the “Diomaye Président” coalition. The leader of this coalition, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has made a remarkable sweep. From Ziguinchor to Bignona, passing through Oussouye, all polling stations in Ziguinchor have fallen into the hands of candidate Diomaye Faye, who has achieved record scores everywhere.

All polling stations, or rather all polling offices, in Ziguinchor have fallen into the hands of candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The candidate of the “Diomaye Président” coalition has made a veritable sweep with over 80% of the votes in Ziguinchor.

The island locality of Njikine, which delivered the first results just minutes after the close of voting with 62 votes for Bassirou Diomaye Faye against 08 votes for candidate Amadou Ba out of a total of 96 registered voters, has confirmed the trends observed in different polling stations in the region.

At the Landing Tamba center, one of the largest centers in Ziguinchor, out of 7036 registered voters and a total of 4075 recorded voters, candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye emerged well ahead with 3503 votes, representing 85% of the voters, against 396 votes (9.7%) for candidate Amadou Ba. Aliou Mamadou Dia of the PUR, and Cheikh Tidiane Dieye came out with 32 and 27 votes respectively.

Similar trends were noted throughout the Ziguinchor municipality, such as at the EFI center where, out of the 5 polling stations that make up this center, candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye obtained 1319 votes against 42 votes for Amadou Ba; the other candidates received fewer than 2 votes. The total number of registered voters in this polling station is 2781 with 1513 voters. The same sweep was carried out in other localities in the region.

In Enampor, candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye “crushed” his opponents with 108 votes against 08 votes for Amadou Ba. A similar scenario and trends were observed in Tendouck, where out of 360 registered voters in polling station No1, Diomaye Faye obtained 192 votes, Amadou Ba received 18 votes, and the other candidates received just 01 vote or zero.

The (provisional) victory of candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye has sparked celebrations among his supporters, who jubilated in the streets of Ziguinchor. A huge crowd even gathered at Ousmane Sonko’s place to express their joy after the results in the region. The turnout rate is around 65%.
