Gambiaj.com – (LATRIKUNDA GERMAN, The Gambia) – The Alkalo of Latrikunda Yiringanya (German), Alhaji Omar M.O. Faal, has rejected a claim that he issued 13,000 attestations during the 2026 supplementary voter registration exercise, saying official records show the figure was 132.
In a press statement, Alhaji Faal said the allegation was made by United Democratic Party (UDP) member Ya Kumba Jaiteh and described it as a misrepresentation of the records held by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
According to the Alkalo, “The Alkalo of Latrikunda German provided only 132 attestations, not 13,000.”
He said the difference between the two figures was significant and urged journalists, political actors, and members of the public to independently verify the number with the IEC.
Two Attestations Challenged
Alhaji Faal further stated that only two of the 132 attestations were challenged before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Revising Court.
He said the court had yet to publish its decision on the two challenges.
The Alkalo also addressed claims concerning his absence from court, explaining that he travelled to the United Kingdom on August 26, 2026, and remained there as of the date of his statement.
He said that before leaving the country, he had neither been served with a summons nor asked to appear before a Revising Court in connection with the two challenged attestations.
Rejects Social Media Claim
Alhaji Faal also denied a subsequent social media claim that he had failed to appear in court while attending a political rally.
He said the claim could not be accurate because he was outside the country.
“Apparently, Ms. Jaiteh’s false claims have led to more falsehoods and malicious statements,” he said.
The Alkalo further criticized Jaiteh, a lawyer and former National Assembly member, saying she should be aware of the professional and ethical obligations associated with making public allegations.
He said spreading inaccurate information was “not only improper” but also contrary to professional codes of conduct and ethical standards.
The statement comes amid heightened political attention to the 2026 voter registration and verification process as political parties prepare for the December 5 presidential election.
