Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Agriculture Minister Dr. Demba Sabally has strongly rejected allegations by Brikama Area Council Chairman Yankuba Darboe regarding purported irregular voter registration activities in Foni Sintet, describing the claims as “lies.”
The rebuttal came shortly after Darboe raised concerns about what he termed “unverified reports” of illegal voter registration in the area. In a swift response, Dr. Sabally insisted that no such exercise was taking place, asserting that officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) were not even present in Sintet at the time.
“You are lying. There is no ongoing registration going at Sintet. Check the IEC nationwide team location and prove yourself wrong,” Sabally said, forcefully dismissing the claims.
Darboe, who chairs the Brikama Area Council, had earlier indicated that reports of irregular registration activities had reached his desk, prompting him to instruct his team to monitor the situation closely.
The allegations reportedly pointed to the District Chief of Kalagi as being linked to the suspected activities.
However, Darboe also acknowledged gaps in the information, noting that his contacts within the United Democratic Party (UDP) structures in Foni Jarrol, as well as members of the APRC Non-Alliance, had denied any knowledge of such developments.
The exchange underscores rising political tensions over voter registration processes, with competing narratives emerging even before any official confirmation from the IEC.
