Omar P. Jallow Alleges Seedy Njie Influenced GRTS Appointment

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Fresh allegations by Omar P. Jallow, who recently resigned from GRTS, the nation’s public broadcaster, have thrust National Assembly Deputy Speaker Seedy Njie into the spotlight, with claims of undue influence over government-related appointments and internal decisions.

Speaking in an interview on Eye Africa TV, Jallow alleged that Njie claimed to have intervened in the 2023 appointment process at the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS). According to Jallow, Njie said he blocked the appointment of Abubakar Darboe due to perceived political affiliations, after which Abdoulie Sey was appointed to the position.

Jallow further claimed that Njie contacted him following his removal from the Office of the Vice President, urging him to issue a public statement denying that his dismissal was politically motivated.

He alleged that Njie warned he would withdraw support for efforts to secure his reinstatement if he declined.

In addition, Jallow said he was instructed to submit the statement for review prior to publication, a move he suggested indicated an attempt to control the narrative surrounding his removal.

The allegations also extend to claims that Njie made direct remarks about appointments within state institutions, implying involvement in decisions beyond his formal responsibilities as Deputy Speaker.

As of publication, Njie has not publicly responded to the claims. There has also been no official statement from the government or GRTS addressing the allegations, which remain unverified.
