Report – Woman Dies During Dental Visit at Ahmadiyya Hospital, Family Seeks Answers

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, THE GAMBIA) – A woman has reportedly died during a visit to Ahmadiyya Hospital for a tooth extraction, prompting her family to seek a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of her death, according to Gambia’s online media, What’s On-Gambia.

Kaddy Jobe reportedly went to the hospital on Monday morning accompanied by her one-month-old baby and a cousin who had gone with her to provide support.

According to the report by What’s On-Gambia, Jobe had announced her intention to have a tooth removed in a WhatsApp status before leaving home.

When her turn came to see the dental practitioner, she reportedly left her baby with her cousin and went in for the procedure. She did not come out alive.

Her family suspects that she may have died after receiving an anesthetic injection, although What’s On-Gambia reported that the hospital denied this account.

Meanwhile, the precise circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. The cause has not been independently established, and no findings from a post-mortem examination were available in What’s On-Gambia’s report.

The family has requested a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

In its report, What’s On-Gambia said it had advised the family, through Jobe’s sister, Sireh, who lives in the United States, to consider taking legal action against the hospital to seek accountability.

What’s On-Gambia has also reported that some people working in dental clinics lack the necessary training and qualifications, with some reportedly learning the trade through informal apprenticeships rather than recognized professional programs.

The report called on authorities to strengthen regulation of healthcare facilities and enforce professional standards to protect patients.

Neither the precise cause of death nor any professional negligence has been established in the information provided as of the publication of this report.
