Tabaski Stabbing Horror: Sonko Argument Turns Bloody in Dakar’s Cité Fadia

Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – What should have been a day of prayers, feasting, and family togetherness descended into chaos and bloodshed in Dakar’s Cité Fadia neighborhood on Wednesday, as a heated political argument allegedly over opposition leader Ousmane Sonko ended with a young man stabbing two of his own siblings before leaping from a second-floor balcony in a desperate bid to flee.

The shocking incident, which unfolded on the occasion of Tabaski, one of the most sacred and family-centered celebrations in the Muslim calendar, has since sent shockwaves across Senegal, with graphic footage of the violent scene circulating widely on social media, including a live broadcast on TikTok that was watched by thousands of stunned viewers in real time.

According to multiple eyewitness accounts, a dispute within the family over Ousmane Sonko, the prominent opposition figure and new Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, rapidly spiraled out of control, escalating from a verbal confrontation to a violent stabbing.

The suspect allegedly turned on his elder brother and sister, stabbing both before his erratic behavior took on an almost surreal dimension.

Witnesses and footage shared across social media platforms showed the man in a state of extreme agitation on the balcony of the family apartment, hurling condiments, food items, and other cooking materials, ingredients prepared for the traditional Tabaski meal, down onto the street below. The dramatic images painted a stark picture of a family celebration violently torn apart.

In what appeared to be an attempt to escape the consequences of his actions, the suspect then jumped from the second floor of the building. Despite sustaining injuries from the fall, he reportedly attempted to flee the scene before being swiftly apprehended by a police officer who had responded to the unfolding emergency.

His capture, however, did not immediately bring calm to the neighborhood. An enraged crowd that had gathered at the scene turned on the suspect, and he was reportedly struck by several projectiles thrown by angry onlookers before law enforcement officers could evacuate him from the area.

At the time of reporting, the precise medical condition of the two stabbing victims, his elder brother and sister, had not been officially confirmed by authorities. Emergency services were said to have been rapidly mobilized following the alarm raised by residents.

The incident has prompted widespread condemnation on Senegalese social media, with many lamenting the fact that a political disagreement could shatter family bonds on such a spiritually significant occasion.

Tabaski, also known as Eid al-Adha, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God and is traditionally observed as a time for forgiveness, reconciliation, and communal harmony.

No formal police statement had been issued at the time of publication. The Gambia Journal will continue to monitor developments as more details emerge from Senegalese authorities.
