Gambia Halts Up-Country Civil Servant Verification Exercise Over Technical Challenges

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination, and Delivery has suspended the ongoing verification exercise for civil servants and pensioners in the provincial areas, citing technical challenges.

The exercise, which was scheduled to run from August 17 to 23, 2026, has been halted until further notice, the Ministry said in a press release issued on Monday.

The suspension affects all unverified civil servants and pensioners in the provincial areas. The Ministry said verification teams would return for a week-long exercise once a new date has been determined and communicated.

Greater Banjul Exercise to Proceed

While the up-country exercise has been suspended, the Ministry confirmed that the verification exercise in the Greater Banjul Area will commence on Thursday, August 20.

The Ministry did not provide details on the nature of the technical challenges that led to the suspension of the provincial exercise.

It apologized to affected civil servants and pensioners for any inconvenience caused by the change in schedule.

Reform and Accountability

The Ministry said the verification exercise forms part of its broader public service reform efforts aimed at strengthening human resource management within the civil service.

It said it remains committed to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the public service, particularly in promoting accountability and transparency.

The exercise is expected to help the authorities verify the status and records of civil servants and pensioners as part of efforts to improve public sector human resource management.

The Ministry urged unverified civil servants and pensioners in the provincial areas to await further communication on the new verification schedule.
