IEC to Publish Provisional Voter Register on July 7; Voters Urged to Verify Details Before July 20

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced that it will publish the provisional voter register nationwide on July 7, 2026, as part of ongoing post-registration activities ahead of the December 5, 2026, general election.

The Commission has urged all registered voters to inspect the provisional register carefully and report any errors, omissions, or discrepancies before the July 20 deadline.

Speaking during an IEC stakeholder engagement forum, Electoral Commissioner Sambujang Njie said the provisional voter register will be displayed at all designated registration centers across the country from July 7 to July 16, 2026, giving voters sufficient time to verify their personal details.

Njie said the display exercise is a crucial stage in the electoral process, aimed at ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the final voter register that will be used for the December 5 polls.

The IEC said registered voters whose names are missing from the provisional register may file appeals during the verification period, while objections may also be lodged against individuals believed to have been registered unlawfully. The appeal and objection period will run from July 7 to July 20, 2026.

The Commission reminded the public that a statutory fee of D50 is payable for each appeal or objection, in accordance with the law. The fee must be paid through approved IEC payment channels before the relevant forms are issued.

The IEC also called on political parties, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the verification exercise, describing it as essential to promoting transparency and safeguarding the integrity of the voter register ahead of the general election.
