Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced the commencement of Revising Court hearings to determine objections arising from the 2026 supplementary registration of voters.
In a press release, the Commission said the Revising Courts were established by the Office of the Chief Justice, with magistrates appointed to hear cases involving objections to names included in the supplementary voter registration process.
The IEC said the names of both objectors and persons being objected to had been published at the Commission’s offices.
Hearings Underway Across the Country
According to the Commission, hearings have commenced at several magistrate courts across the country, including Kanifing and Bundung, Brikama, Mansakonko, Kerewan, and Farafenni.
Other designated courts include Janjanbureh, Kuntaur, Kaur, and Basse, with hearing dates assigned by the respective magistrates.
The IEC said the Revising Courts are expected to conclude their hearings within 60 days of commencement.
The process forms part of the legal mechanisms for scrutinizing and resolving objections related to voter registration before the finalization of the electoral register ahead of the 2026 elections.
The Commission assured the public and stakeholders that it remains committed to strengthening the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
