Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, THE GAMBIA) – The Cadis’ and Magistrates’ Associations have raised concerns over operational constraints affecting the effective functioning of their courts during a meeting with Chief Justice Edi M.O. Faal, calling attention to challenges that require institutional support and urgent attention.
The concerns were presented on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, when executives and members of the two associations paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice. The meeting marked their first official engagement with him since his appointment.
The discussions provided an opportunity for judicial officers to outline difficulties confronting their respective courts and propose measures to improve the administration of justice and the delivery of judicial services.
Chief Justice Faal acknowledged several of the challenges raised and expressed an understanding of the constraints affecting the work of magistrates and cadis. He assured the delegation that the issues would receive his attention, adding that some would be considered priorities as the Judiciary looks into appropriate ways of addressing them.
Although the specific operational challenges were not detailed in the Judiciary’s account of the meeting, the associations used the engagement to draw attention to institutional difficulties that could affect the effective functioning of their courts.
The meeting also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between judicial officers and the leadership of the Judiciary in identifying practical solutions to improve court operations.
The associations reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Chief Justice to strengthen professionalism, improve judicial efficiency and enhance public confidence in the justice system.
