Gambiaj.com – (BEIJING, China) – The Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) has held talks with the China Young Entrepreneurs Association (CYEA) in Beijing aimed at establishing a long-term partnership focused on training, enterprise development, and knowledge-sharing for young Gambian entrepreneurs.
The meeting, held at the CYEA Secretariat Meeting Room, forms part of GYCC’s ongoing engagement in China as the Chamber seeks to expand international opportunities for youth-led businesses in The Gambia.
The discussions were chaired by CYEA Deputy Secretary General Wang Qi, who provided an overview of the organisation and its work in supporting young entrepreneurs across China.
According to information shared during the meeting, CYEA was established in 1985 and is registered under China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs. It operates as a group member of the All China Youth Federation and serves as an umbrella body representing young entrepreneurs nationwide.
The association oversees a network of 1,229 associations and 200 companies. As of June 2026, it had more than 2,000 direct members with an average age of 38 and an estimated reach of nearly 200,000 young entrepreneurs across China.
Focus on Training and Enterprise Development
The Gambian delegation was led by GYCC Board President Modou Lamin Gassama and included Chief Executive Officer Jarry Sowe and Mustapha Jarju.
During the meeting, Sowe outlined GYCC’s mandate of supporting youth-led enterprises, promoting trade, and strengthening the institutional capacity of young businesses in The Gambia.
Gassama proposed several areas for cooperation, emphasising the need for a structured and long-term framework that would ensure sustained collaboration between the two organisations.
GYCC expressed interest in programs centered on knowledge exchange, practical training, and experience-sharing to equip young Gambian entrepreneurs with new skills and opportunities. The Chamber also proposed the development of a joint agenda to guide future activities and partnerships.
Wang welcomed the proposals and said CYEA was willing to explore avenues of cooperation that could create mutual benefits for young entrepreneurs in both countries.
The meeting concluded with CYEA presenting GYCC with a traditional Chinese gift and a certificate in recognition of the engagement and prospective partnership.
The discussions are part of GYCC’s broader efforts to connect Gambian youth businesses with international networks, technical expertise, and global markets through practical programs aimed at promoting enterprise growth and job creation.
