Former Police PRO David Kujabi Says Dr. Ismaila Ceesay’s Rise Has Exposed a Different Kind of Political Truth

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Former Police Public Relations Officer David Kujabi has issued a sharply worded political reflection on Dr. Ismaila Ceesay’s role in government, arguing that the minister’s presence at State House has revealed more about his politics than his earlier public image ever suggested.

In his commentary, Kujabi draws a stark contrast between Dr. Ceesay’s past reputation as a fearless lecturer and outspoken political critic and what he now describes as his role as a defender of the Barrow administration.

He recalls a figure once widely admired for challenging authoritarianism but who, in his view, is now seen as justifying the very system he once opposed.

At the core of Kujabi’s argument is the assertion that Dr. Ceesay’s appointment has not strengthened the government politically but instead exposed deeper truths about leadership, ambition, and loyalty.

He contends that what many once interpreted as principled conviction may, in fact, have been ambition masked in academic language and reformist rhetoric.

Kujabi frames this shift as more than personal disappointment, presenting it instead as a broader national warning. According to him, a leader who appears to change so fundamentally upon entering office may have always harbored the same instincts, only revealed when given power.

He goes further to suggest that had Dr. Ceesay ascended to the presidency, the sense of betrayal now felt by critics might not have emerged as a singular rupture, but rather as a defining feature of governance.

In this reading, the issue would not have been a broken promise but a governing style rooted in contradiction.

While sharply critical, Kujabi’s reflection also advances a wider political message about trust, principle, and the risks of conflating eloquence with integrity. His commentary taps into a recurring theme in Gambian politics: the persistent gap between public promises and the realities of governing.

By juxtaposing Dr. Ceesay’s current conduct with his earlier public posture, Kujabi ultimately portrays him as a cautionary example, arguing that his political trajectory offers a sobering lesson on leadership and the complexities of power.
