Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced that schools across The Gambia will officially reopen on Monday, September 14, 2026, for the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The ministry said the reopening date applies to all stakeholders as preparations continue for the new academic year.
Transport Arrangements for Teachers
To support a smooth resumption of school activities, the ministry said transportation will be provided for teachers on the reopening day.
Teachers using the transport service have been asked to report promptly at their designated pickup points.
The first pickup point will be at the Gambia Teachers’ Union (GTU) in Kanifing, where buses will depart at 8:00 a.m.
The second pickup point will be at The Gambia College in Brikama, also with departure scheduled for 8:00 a.m.
The ministry urged teachers to take note of the arrangements and ensure they arrive on time.
It thanked teachers and other stakeholders for their continued cooperation and commitment and wished students, teachers, and school communities a successful 2026/2027 academic year.
