Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Senegal has announced the development of a new locally engineered airborne bomb system known as the “KHEUT-300,” marking another step in the country’s growing ambitions to establish a domestic defense manufacturing industry.
The announcement was made Monday by Senegalese defense manufacturer SKIMIKAMIYA Industries, which described the KHEUT-300 as a 324 mm airborne bomb developed under its advanced ballistic systems research and manufacturing programs.
According to the company, the KHEUT-300 was derived from propulsion, stabilization, and explosive technologies previously developed through the SKIMIKAMIYA rocket project.
The firm said the new system benefits from industrial and technological experience acquired during earlier weapons development efforts, helping to improve strike capability, operational reliability, and structural durability.
SKIMIKAMIYA Industries stated that the bomb was designed for tactical strike and air support missions. It features a reinforced aerodynamic structure, optimized stabilization surfaces, and a modular design intended to facilitate integration with different aerial platforms.
The company added that the KHEUT-300 builds on previous defense projects already developed locally, including the NINKI-NANKA 1, 2, and 3 missile systems, which it described as representing “the culmination of our vision for an autonomous and modern African defense.”
According to the firm, the latest program demonstrates Senegal’s capacity to develop modern defense systems using local engineering expertise, strategic materials, and high-precision industrial processes.
Speaking on the project, Serigne Mactar Ba, Director and chief engineer-founder of SKIMIKAMIYA Industries, said the initiative forms part of a broader ambition to position Senegal as a major player in Africa’s defense industry.
“Our objective is to make Senegal a major actor in the defense industry in Africa, while creating skilled jobs and ensuring our technological autonomy,” he said.
The unveiling of the KHEUT-300 comes amid increasing efforts by several African countries to strengthen domestic military production capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign defense suppliers.
