Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has reacted publicly after being dismissed from office on Friday by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in a dramatic political development that has shaken the country’s leadership.
Shortly after news of his dismissal broke, the leader of the ruling Pastef party took to social media to comment on his removal.
“Alhamdoulillah. Tonight I will sleep with a light heart at the Keur Gorgui residence,” Sonko wrote in a brief but symbolic message posted online.
The presidency has not yet officially disclosed the reasons behind Sonko’s dismissal, leaving observers speculating about the circumstances surrounding the abrupt decision.
The move comes after months of reported tensions and internal power struggles within the executive, despite the close political alliance that brought both men to power following Senegal’s 2024 presidential election.
Sonko, a key figure in Senegalese opposition politics before the electoral victory of Pastef, had served as Prime Minister under President Diomaye Faye since the new administration assumed office.
His dismissal marks a major turning point in Senegal’s political landscape and is expected to trigger intense debate within political circles and among supporters of the ruling coalition.
