Gambiaj.com – (BIGNONA, Senegal) – Senegalese soldiers have destroyed seven fields of Indian hemp and arrested two individuals during a security operation in North Sindian, in the Bignona department of the Casamance region.
The operation was conducted on September 17 by military personnel deployed under Military Zone No. 5, according to the Directorate of Public Information and Armed Forces Relations (DIRPA).
Over One Hectare of Cannabis Destroyed
The seven plantations covered more than one hectare and were discovered about eight kilometers northwest of Sindian, DIRPA said.
The military subsequently destroyed the cannabis fields as part of efforts to disrupt activities linked to the criminal economy in the area.
Two individuals were also arrested during the operation and handed over to the Bignona Gendarmerie Brigade for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Security Operations Continue
The operation forms part of ongoing security activities by Military Zone No. 5 aimed at combating illicit economic activities and strengthening security in northern Casamance.
The latest action comes amid continued security operations in parts of the region, where authorities have been seeking to curb criminal activities and improve control over areas affected by insecurity.
