Police Alert Neighboring Countries Over Reported Contaminated Buffalo Meat Container

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force has shared information with neighboring countries through Interpol channels concerning a container reportedly carrying contaminated buffalo meat aboard a vessel currently at the Port of Banjul.

The police said on Thursday that the container will not be discharged in Banjul and that arrangements are being made to ensure it remains on board while the vessel is in port.

The development follows earlier enquiries by the police into reports that the vessel had arrived at the Port of Banjul with a container said to contain buffalo meat that was potentially contaminated.

According to the police, inquiries with the vessel’s representatives established that the container is not destined for discharge in The Gambia.

The police said it is working with sister security services in neighboring countries, as well as other relevant agencies, to monitor the situation and ensure the container remains on the vessel.

The latest update appears aimed at preventing the reported consignment from entering the local supply chain while authorities coordinate with regional counterparts through established international law-enforcement channels.

The police have not provided details on the nature or source of the reported contamination nor identified the country to which the container is ultimately destined.

The vessel arrived at the Port of Banjul on Thursday, October 8.
