Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow on Monday received at State House a pre-election delegation led by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, as The Gambia prepares for the December 5, 2026 presidential election.
The delegation, which also includes Professor Attahiru Jega, former chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), held discussions with President Barrow on the country’s electoral process and preparations for the upcoming polls.
Barrow Pledges Support for Peaceful Polls
According to the presidency, President Barrow welcomed the delegation and assured its members of his support for peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.
The meeting comes as political parties and other stakeholders intensify preparations for the December election, with the electoral process expected to remain a key focus in the months leading to the polls.
Thomas-Greenfield thanked President Barrow for making time to meet the delegation and described the discussions as “extraordinarily fruitful.”
She said the engagement provided an opportunity for the delegation to gain a better understanding of The Gambia’s electoral environment ahead of the election.
Delegation to Meet Opposition, Civil Society
The delegation is also expected to meet opposition political parties, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders during its visit.
The meetings are intended to provide the delegation with first-hand perspectives on the electoral process, including the views and concerns of political actors and civil society groups ahead of the December 5 vote.
The visit comes less than four months before Gambians go to the polls to elect a president for the next five-year term.
