Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow has begun his nationwide development tour, with the first day of the exercise focused on road infrastructure, healthcare, and other development projects in the North Bank Region.
The President’s tour opened with the laying of foundation stones for a series of major road projects intended to improve connectivity and access to essential services in rural communities.
Among the projects launched were the Essau-Barra Backway Road, as well as roads linking Fass Njaga Choi, Kerr Samba Kalla, Bakalarr, Jurunku, and Kerr Omar Saine.
The projects, which form part of the government’s broader infrastructure programme, are expected to ease movement between communities, strengthen local trade, and improve access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other essential services.
Ambulances for Nuimi and Jokadu
As part of the first day’s activities, President Barrow also handed over ambulances to the people of the Nuimi and Jokadu districts.
The handover followed the laying of foundation stones for 255 kilometres of road projects in the two districts and was presented by the government as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and bring essential services closer to rural communities.
The ambulances are expected to strengthen emergency medical response, particularly for communities that face challenges accessing health facilities because of distance and poor road conditions.
At a joint meeting in Kuntaya, President Barrow reflected on what he described as the difficulties previously experienced by communities in Jokadu and Nuimi, contrasting those challenges with the development projects delivered under his administration.
Government Highlights Development Record
The President pointed to the construction of the Hakalamg road as one of the commitments made by his government and subsequently fulfilled.
He also highlighted investments in health infrastructure and schools, the provision of agricultural inputs to farmers, and the expansion of access to clean water and electricity across the two districts.
The government says the combination of road construction and investment in basic services is intended to improve living conditions in rural communities while creating better conditions for economic activity.
Barrow’s nationwide tour is expected to take him to other regions of the country, where he will inspect ongoing projects, launch new initiatives, and engage communities on the government’s development agenda.
The tour comes less than four months before the December 5 presidential election, making the administration’s record of infrastructure and service delivery a central feature of its engagement with communities across the country.
