Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow is expected to receive former Senegalese President Macky Sall at the State House in Banjul on Friday evening as the former West African leader continues his diplomatic campaign for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
According to information released by the Office of the President, Mr. Sall will be accompanied by former Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló during the visit.
Vice President Muhammed B.S. Jallow is scheduled to welcome the two former heads of state at the Banjul International Airport at 7:00 p.m. before they proceed to the State House for an audience with President Barrow.
The Banjul stop comes after a brief visit by Mr. Sall to Dakar earlier on Friday, where he is expected to hold talks with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
According to information from senior officials of Senegal’s Alliance for the Republic (APR), Mr. Sall is due to arrive in Dakar aboard a special flight at around 3:00 p.m., landing at the military section of Dakar’s airport for what has been described as a short but significant meeting with his successor.
The meeting in Dakar is expected to take place before Mr. Sall continues his regional diplomatic engagements in Banjul.
Mr. Sall has been touring a number of countries as part of his campaign to secure support for his bid to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. His consultations with regional leaders are seen as part of efforts to build African backing ahead of the international selection process.
His audience with President Barrow adds The Gambia to the list of countries being engaged as he seeks endorsements for one of the world’s most influential diplomatic positions.
