Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow is set to begin a 19-day nationwide Meet the People Tour on October 1, with 21 public meetings, 24 project-site visits, and seven inauguration and handover ceremonies scheduled across the country.
According to the program released by State House, the tour will include 15 program days and four rest days.
The 21 public meetings will provide communities with opportunities to engage directly with the President and raise concerns about key issues, including roads, electricity, water supply, health, education, and agriculture.
Barrow is also scheduled to visit 24 project sites covering sectors such as road construction, energy, health and agriculture. Seven completed projects are expected to be inaugurated or formally handed over during the tour.
Constitutional Requirement
The annual Meet the People Tour is provided for under Section 222(15) of The Gambia’s 1997 Constitution. The provision requires the President to undertake a nationwide tour to engage with citizens, assess their living conditions, and gather information on the implementation of government policies and programs.
The 2026 tour comes less than three months before the December 5 presidential election, placing the exercise within a politically significant period as Barrow’s administration highlights its development record ahead of the vote.
The tour is expected to conclude in mid-October.
