“Billionaire Mara” Arrested in The Gambia Over Alleged ‘Homosexuality’ and Fraud Case Involving Minor

Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Serigne Abdoulaye Faye, a controversial Senegalese marabout widely known as the “billionaire mara,” has been arrested in The Gambia and transferred to Senegal in connection with a serious criminal investigation involving alleged “homosexuality” and fraud, according to Senegalese media reports.

Faye is currently in the custody of Senegal’s Criminal Investigations Division (DIC) in Dakar following his arrest, which was reportedly facilitated through an operation involving Interpol and close collaboration with the Gambia Police Force.

He was transported overnight under heavy security operatives who stayed in The Gambia from Thursday to the early hours of Friday.

The case stems from an investigation in Touba, where authorities uncovered alleged misconduct involving a minor.

According to sources familiar with the probe, the case was triggered after a father discovered compromising material on his son’s mobile phone.

Investigators believe the content points to the existence of an organized network involving multiple individuals and alleged paid practices of homosexuality also described in the recent Senegalese law as “unnatural acts.”

Authorities say Faye had initially been questioned and released during the early stages of the investigation.

However, as the case intensified and evidence mounted, he reportedly fled Senegal and sought refuge in The Gambia. He is believed to have rented accommodation for up to six months in an apparent attempt to evade prosecution.

Despite these efforts, coordinated intelligence-sharing between Senegalese investigators and Gambian authorities led to his swift location and arrest.

A specialized team was subsequently deployed from Senegal to apprehend him and facilitate his transfer back to Dakar.

Sources close to the investigation indicate that prosecutors consider the evidence gathered so far to be substantial, warranting further interrogation of the suspect. Faye is expected to face multiple charges in Senegal as the inquiry continues.

The case has drawn significant public attention in Senegal, particularly due to the gravity of the allegations and the involvement of a religious figure with a prominent public profile. Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement detailing the full scope of charges, but investigations remain ongoing.
