Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Old Yundum Police have arrested and charged two suspects in connection with the alleged robbery and unlawful confinement of a young female make-up artist who was reportedly lured to a guesthouse in the Brusubi area.
Police said the suspects, an 18-year-old woman and her brother, were arrested following investigations into the incident reported on September 27, 2026.
According to the police, the 18-year-old woman was first arrested during an operation at the Coastal Road Market. Further investigations led officers to her brother, who was subsequently arrested at their residence in Sinchu.
Police said the investigation also resulted in the recovery of the victim’s mobile phone.
Both suspects have since been charged and remain in police custody as investigations continue.
How the woman was allegedly lured
The case first came to public attention after Whats-On Gambia reported on Wednesday that the young make-up artist had allegedly been lured to an apartment under the pretext of providing services for a wedding photoshoot.
According to the report, the woman, who advertises her make-up services on TikTok, received a call from a couple who claimed they were preparing for a wedding photoshoot and needed a make-up artist.
After discussions about the arrangement, the couple reportedly invited her to an apartment in Old Yundum, which they had allegedly rented for the day.
The couple reportedly told the landlord that the apartment was being rented for a photoshoot.
However, when the make-up artist arrived, the couple allegedly locked the door, took her iPhone 15 and D2,000 from her handbag, and left her inside the apartment.
Watchman raises alarm.
The woman reportedly began shouting for help after being locked inside.
A watchman in the compound heard her cries and went to investigate, after which the police were called and she was rescued.
The police statement did not provide further details about the alleged involvement of the two suspects or indicate whether additional arrests are expected.
The investigation remains ongoing.
