Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has arrested and confined to barracks a police officer seen in a viral social media video allegedly issuing threats and behaving in a manner the Force says falls far below its professional standards.
In a statement, the GPF said it had taken immediate action after becoming aware of the video, describing the officer’s conduct as inconsistent with the discipline, professionalism, and decorum expected of members of the Force.
The police said the officer has been arrested and will remain confined to barracks while internal disciplinary proceedings are conducted. Authorities added that the incident is also being thoroughly investigated to determine the full circumstances surrounding the matter and whether further action is warranted.
Conduct Condemned as Public Reassured
The GPF said the behavior captured in the video was “unacceptable” and stressed that it does not reflect the values, ethics, or professional standards of the institution.
The Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and accountability, emphasizing that it would not tolerate any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in policing.
