Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Three police officers have been dismissed from the Gambia Police Force (GPF) with immediate effect after being found guilty of misconduct during internal disciplinary proceedings, the Force has announced.
In a public notice, the GPF identified the dismissed officers as Police Constable Alieu G. Camara, Police Constable Buba Touray, and Police Constable Ismaila Bah.
According to the police, the disciplinary action followed separate incidents of misconduct, including the widely circulated video showing PC Alieu G. Camara behaving in a manner deemed unbecoming of a police officer during an altercation with a shopkeeper.
The GPF said all three officers were formally charged in line with its disciplinary procedures and appeared before an Orderly Room hearing. During the proceedings, each officer pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.
The guilty pleas resulted in their immediate dismissal from the Force.
Zero-tolerance policy
The Police Force said the dismissals demonstrate its commitment to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and accountability within its ranks.
“The Gambia Police Force remains steadfast in upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and accountability,” the statement said.
The Force added that the action reflects its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and its determination to preserve public confidence in policing.
The GPF also assured the public that any officer found to have breached the laws, regulations, or ethical standards governing the institution would be held accountable through established disciplinary procedures.
The dismissal of PC Alieu G. Camara comes days after a video of his confrontation with a shopkeeper circulated widely on social media, prompting public criticism and calls for disciplinary action. The police have now confirmed that the incident formed part of the basis for the sanctions imposed against him.
