Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has refuted reports circulating in the media alleging a shortage of passport booklets for Gambian migrants in Spain, describing the claims as “inaccurate and misleading.”
In a press release signed by Public Relations Officer Inspector Siman Lowe, the department said the information appears intended to cast doubt on ongoing government efforts to support Gambians abroad in obtaining essential travel documents.
The GID clarified that its biometric enrollment team currently operating in Spain does not handle or possess passport booklets, as its mandate is strictly limited to capturing applicants’ biometric data.
According to the department, all passport applications processed in Spain and Italy are transmitted to The Gambia, where the printing of passports is carried out.
“For clarity, we can confirm that there is adequate stock of biometric passport booklets in The Gambia to print all applications,” the statement emphasized.
The department further noted that since the commencement of the exercise on Monday, April 27, 2026, immigration officials deployed to Spain have been delivering services with “professionalism, diligence, and respect” despite high demand from applicants.
While acknowledging the surge in passport requests among Gambians in Spain, the GID maintained that the volume of applications has not disrupted its capacity to provide services effectively.
Reaffirming its commitment to efficient service delivery, the department urged Gambians to rely on official communication channels, particularly its Public Relations Office, to avoid misinformation that could undermine government initiatives aimed at serving citizens both at home and abroad.
