Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Government of The Gambia has announced revised retail pump prices for petroleum products for September 2026, citing continued increases in international crude oil and refined petroleum product prices.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, September 1, by the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy, and Mines, petrol will sell at D109.80 per liter, while diesel will cost D120 per liter. Kerosene has been set at D112.64 per liter.
The revised prices took effect on September 1, 2026.
Middle East Instability Drives Global Price Pressure
The Ministry said the adjustment was primarily driven by rising international oil prices, which have been influenced by the continuing conflict and instability in the Middle East, a key region for global energy supplies.
According to the Ministry, the situation has increased uncertainty in international oil markets and heightened concerns about possible disruptions to oil production, refining, and the transportation of petroleum products.
As The Gambia depends heavily on imported petroleum products, changes in international markets directly affect the cost of fuel locally, the Ministry said.
Government Acknowledges Burden on Consumers
The government acknowledged that higher fuel prices could place additional pressure on households, businesses, and transport operators but said the adjustment reflects prevailing international market conditions and is necessary to ensure the continued availability of petroleum products.
The Ministry said the government would continue to closely monitor developments in the international oil market and take appropriate measures in accordance with the country’s established petroleum pricing framework.
It also thanked the public and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation as the government responds to challenges affecting the global energy market.
