Barrow Calls For Restraint Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow has expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East following reports of military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran, urging all parties to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions.

In a press release issued in Banjul, the Gambian leader, speaking in his capacity as Chair of the 15th Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), warned that the unfolding developments could further destabilize an already fragile regional environment.

Barrow said the situation risks creating serious consequences for civilian populations, damaging critical infrastructure, and undermining broader regional and global security.

Call for Restraint and Diplomacy

The president called on all sides involved in the confrontation to avoid further escalation and fully respect their obligations under the United Nations Charter and international law.

He emphasized the need to uphold the sovereignty of states and ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.

As Chair of the Islamic Summit, President Barrow reiterates the OIC’s longstanding and principled position that disputes should be addressed through peaceful means,” the statement said, stressing that dialogue, diplomacy, and constructive engagement remain the most viable paths to reducing tensions and achieving lasting peace.

OIC Ready To Support De-Escalation

Barrow encouraged all concerned parties to utilize diplomatic channels through the United Nations and other relevant international and regional mechanisms to resolve the crisis.

He also reaffirmed the readiness of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to support genuine efforts aimed at de-escalation, mediation, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

The Gambian government reiterated its commitment to peace, justice, and the rule of international law, while calling on the international community to intensify efforts toward restraint and renewed diplomacy in order to safeguard regional stability and promote global peace.
