Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Hon. Fatoumata Njai, Member of the National Assembly for Banjul South, has been elected as the 2nd Vice President for West Africa of the Women’s Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament.

Her election took place during the renewal of leadership structures of the Seventh Legislature of the continental Parliament, where members constituted a new Bureau in line with the principle of regional rotation.

The newly elected Bureau will be led by Rehab Mukami Wachira of Kenya as President, representing Eastern Africa. Other members include Aisha Adams as 1st Vice President for Southern Africa, Awatef Cheniti as 3rd Vice President for North Africa, and Leocadie Ndacayizaba as 4th Vice President for Central Africa.

A prominent advocate for women’s political participation, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance, Hon. Njai has played an active role in advancing these causes both domestically and across regional platforms. She has previously represented The Gambia in bodies such as the ECOWAS Parliament.

Her new role is expected to bolster West Africa’s voice within the Women’s Caucus, while reinforcing efforts to promote gender equity and inclusive policymaking across the continent.
