Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force has issued a clarification regarding an incident involving political commentator Abdoulie Bojang, confirming that an investigation into alleged threatening violence is ongoing.
According to a police statement released on May 2, officers in Old Yundum are probing an altercation between Mr. Bojang and another individual, identified as Bunis Briwandi, which occurred on April 29, 2026.
Preliminary findings indicate that the confrontation began at the entrance of a supermarket in Old Yundum after the complainant was asked to move his parked vehicle.
The situation reportedly escalated into a dispute, during which the complainant alleged that Mr. Bojang attempted to assault him with an iron object.
Police confirmed that Mr. Bojang was subsequently arrested, cautioned, and later released on bail as investigations continue. Authorities said they have obtained statements from witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The Police Force also raised concern over what it described as the spread of unverified information on social media regarding the incident.
In particular, it dismissed claims suggesting that the matter involved derogatory remarks against the President, stating that no such evidence has been established.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process and impartiality, the police urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified claims that could undermine the integrity of the investigation.
Authorities say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
