Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow on Wednesday concluded his nationwide development tour with the launch of 36.1 kilometers of new road projects and the laying of the foundation stone for a modern market in Sukuta, as his administration stepped up its infrastructure program in the West Coast Region.
The projects are expected to improve connectivity between communities, ease daily commuting, and strengthen access for farmers, traders, and other economic actors across the region.
Six Roads Launched
The road projects cover several key corridors linking communities in the West Coast Region.
They include the 6.2-kilometer Brikama–Jidda Baba Njie–Toubakuta Road, the 2.4-kilometer Brikama Newtown Road–Kitty Junction Road, and the one-kilometer Lamin Waa Juwara–Box Ba Road–Jah Oil route in Brikama.
Government is also developing the 15-kilometre Lamin CDC–Kubariko–Makumbaya–Galoya–Kubuneh–Kunkujang Jataya–Mandinaring Road.
Other projects launched include the 1.3-kilometer Hamat Bah Junction–OIC Road and the 10.2-kilometer Jabang–Yuna–Madiana–Tanji Road.
The government says the roads will improve movement between communities while supporting agriculture, trade, and access to essential services.
Sukuta Market Project
President Barrow also laid the foundation stone for a modern market in Sukuta.
The market is expected to provide traders and residents with improved facilities for commercial activities while creating a more conducive environment for local businesses to grow.
The project comes as Sukuta and surrounding communities continue to experience rapid population growth and expanding commercial activity.
Addressing residents during the tour, President Barrow thanked communities for their support despite the heavy rainfall that accompanied his visit.
He told residents that The Gambia would be in a better position over the next five years as his government continues to implement development projects aimed at improving people’s lives.
The President said the administration’s development program was not limited to roads but also included investments in electricity, education, agriculture, water, and health.
The West Coast projects bring the President’s latest development tour to a close, with the government presenting the infrastructure investments as part of its broader effort to improve living standards, strengthen economic activity, and expand access to basic services across the country.
