Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Government of The Gambia has advised its nationals living in the Middle East to carefully assess their personal safety and consider voluntary departure from the region where necessary due to the prevailing security situation.
In an advisory issued on April 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad urged Gambians residing in affected areas to remain vigilant, follow guidance from local authorities, and avoid situations that could expose them to danger.
The ministry said it is closely monitoring developments in the region but encouraged citizens, particularly those in vulnerable or uncertain circumstances, to make timely arrangements to relocate to safer environments if needed.
“Gambian nationals currently residing in the Middle East are advised to take proactive steps to evaluate their personal safety and consider voluntary departure from the region where necessary,” the advisory stated.
Authorities warned that unforeseen developments could arise amid the evolving security situation and stressed the importance of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of Gambian citizens abroad.
Call for Registration by Gambians Abroad
The ministry also renewed its longstanding call for Gambians living outside the country to register with the nearest Gambian diplomatic mission.
According to the ministry, registration with Gambian embassies, high commissions, or consulates enables the government to maintain accurate records of its nationals abroad and provide assistance during emergencies or crises.
Officials said the process also facilitates the sharing of important updates, advisories, and support services while strengthening engagement with the Gambian diaspora community.
Gambians who have not yet registered were strongly encouraged to do so as soon as possible by contacting the nearest Gambian diplomatic mission or through official communication channels provided by the ministry.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of Gambians abroad and said it stands ready to provide assistance whenever necessary.
