Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow is expected to preside over the inauguration of the newly constructed 4.5-kilometer Sanyang Seaside Road on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, marking the beginning of a series of commissioning ceremonies for newly completed government-funded road projects across the country throughout September.
The project, constructed by Zen Construction Ltd. under the supervision of the National Roads Authority (NRA), forms part of the government’s broader investment in road infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity, mobility, and access to key economic and social destinations.
Improved Access to Sanyang Coast
The new road links the Brusubi–Kartong Highway directly to the Sanyang seaside, providing an improved route to one of the area’s important tourism and economic destinations.
It features concrete-paved carriageways, drainage infrastructure on both sides, and street lighting, creating what authorities describe as a safer and more modern connection between communities and the Sanyang coastal area.
The completion of the project is expected to improve accessibility and mobility for residents and road users while enhancing access to the Tourism Development Area.
The improved route is also expected to facilitate the movement of tourists, visitors, businesses, and residents, particularly as Sanyang continues to attract tourism and commercial activity along its coastline.
Boost for Tourism and Local Economy
Beyond transportation, the road is expected to support local economic development by improving access to businesses and tourism-related facilities in the Sanyang coastal area.
Better connectivity could also encourage the expansion of commercial activities and make the area more accessible to investors and visitors.
For residents, the road is expected to reduce difficulties associated with reaching the seaside, particularly during the rainy season when poor road conditions can affect movement.
The Sanyang Seaside Road is among several projects being implemented under the government’s wider road infrastructure development program, which seeks to expand and upgrade the national road network and strengthen connections between communities.
Tuesday’s inauguration is expected to signal the start of a month-long programme of commissioning ceremonies as the government unveils newly completed road projects across The Gambia.
